Mental Health Considerations in the Pediatric Emergency Room
University of Michigan School of Medicine
The emergency room setting provides an almost unending number of opportunities for psycho-social intervention, and yet this area of patient contact has been for the most part sorely neglected in most training programs throughout the United States. The purpose of this paper is to share the experience of the emergency room setting from the perspective both of the house officers and supportive staff who work there and of the families and children who must seek care under the most adverse conditions and finally to provide some suggestions for intervention which can be made regardless of professional discipline.
