Validity of the Personality Inventory for Children with Four-Year-Old Males and Females: A Reanalysis

Paul J. Handal1 and Rose DeMoor-Peal

St. Louis University, Northside Community Mental Health Center

Because of the use of inappropriate cut off scores for the P scales Intellectual Screening (IS) and Adjustment (ADJ) by DeMoor-Peal and Handal, a reanalysis of the original data pertaining to these scales was performed using the recommended cutoff scores of > 69T for IS and > 59Tfor ADJ. Results yielded both statistical and clinical support for the IS scale and statistical but not clinical support for the ADJ scale. Again, with the exception of IS, caution was recommended against the use of fixed cut off scores in a clinical setting since their use appears to be premature.

Key words: Personality Inventory for Children (PIC); head start; rural preschool.
