Organization of Infant Behavior and Season of Birth
University of Kansas
One hundred sixty full-term infants born during different seasons of the same year were examined to determine if there are identifiable differences in behavioral organization as a function of season of birth. Univariate and multivariate analyses of the 14 elicited responses indicated the presence of a trend with children in the fall performing more towards the upper end of the scale. Further, one general factor labeled "grasping" was identified which differed across all four seasons. Nutritional and other prenatal factors are discussed as possible influences on early behavioral organization.
