The development of visuospatial perception was investigated in 221 children and adolescents between the ages of 7 and 14 years. A judgment of line orientation test which had been designed for the clinical assessment of spatial deficits in adult neurological patients was found to be suitable for use with children as young as 7 years of age. Line orientation performance of boys was superior to that of girls at all age levels. Thirteen-year-olds showed a level of performance comparable to that of adults of the same sex. Verbal ability was only slightly related to performance on the visuospatial test.
